A friend who was coming to dinner\u00a0requested something in the nature of comfort food to dispel the gloom of the weather (lots and lots of rain!). So I pulled out Sue\u2019s recipe.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">My local general store doesn\u2019t sell veal so I used 1 pound of lean ground beef and 1\/2 pound of pork. The only other changes I made (and they were minor, including the use of fresh instead of dried oregano) are noted in the recipe.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">This meatloaf is tender and very flavorful. I particularly enjoyed the fresh herbs; I might throw in even more of them another time and leave the spices\u00a0on the rack\u00a0until winter.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">By the way, in case I haven\u2019t already bombarded you with this information, I do want to mention that my book <em>Pulling Taffy<\/em> will officially come out this Sunday and may be ordered right now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pullingtaffy.com\" target=\"_blank\">from its website<\/a>. Please consider supporting me by purchasing the book.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10487\" style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Taffy-celebrates.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10487\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10487\" alt=\"My mother would be celebrating this week!\" src=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Taffy-celebrates.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Taffy-celebrates.jpg 360w, https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Taffy-celebrates-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-10487\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My mother would be celebrating this week!<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">And now, on to Sue\u2019s recipe\u2026\u2026<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Sues-Meatloaf.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sue\u2019s Meatloaf<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>Ingredients:<\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">1-1\/2 pounds meatloaf mixture (1\/3 lean ground beef, 1\/3 ground veal, 1\/3 ground pork)<br \/>\n1 cup fresh breadcrumbs (I used my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/?p=1236\" target=\"_blank\">maple oatmeal bread<\/a>, which makes great crumbs)<br \/>\n2 tablespoons milk<br \/>\n1 egg, beaten<br \/>\n1 small onion, finely chopped (or half of a large onion)<br \/>\n1 to 2 garlic cloves (according to your taste), minced<br \/>\n1\/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped<br \/>\n1\/4 cup fresh sage, chopped<br \/>\n1 teaspoon dried oregano (I used 2 teaspoons fresh since that\u2019s what I had)<br \/>\n1 teaspoon ground cumin<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon (sweet smoked) paprika (or regular)<br \/>\n1-1\/2 teaspoons fine sea salt<br \/>\n1 teaspoon ground black pepper<br \/>\n1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce<br \/>\n1\/4 cup ketchup<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Instructions:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Place the meat mixture in a food processor and pulse a bit for a finer grind. Transfer it to a large bowl. Add the remaining ingredients. Mix with hands.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Put the mixture into a 9-x-5 inch loaf pan and pat into loaf shape. (I used a regular baking pan and shaped a free-form loaf.)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Bake for about 1 hour, or until the center of the meat reaches 170 degrees on a meat thermometer. (I covered the loaf for the first half hour and then uncovered it to finish cooking.)<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Serve with ketchup, if desired.
