My grilling skills are definitely under par, and a little distraction can help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">I have never mastered ketchup\u2014and anyway it\u2019s too early in the season to try making it (we are only just starting to find tomatoes in western Massachusetts).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Mustard is another matter. I love it, and I make it often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">As I have written here before, I love to give <a href=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/?p=874\" target=\"_blank\">fancy, rich mustard<\/a> as a holiday gift. At this time of year, however, I go for a simpler mustard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">I made it last week on <a href=\"http:\/\/mymassappeal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Mass Appeal<\/em><\/a> and want to share the recipe with you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">If you don\u2019t like your mustard with kick, cut down on the dry mustard or add more honey. For me, the formula below is pretty perfect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11480\" src=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/must2web.jpg\" alt=\"must2web\" width=\"432\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/must2web.jpg 432w, https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/must2web-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 432px) 100vw, 432px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Homemade-Mustard.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><strong>Homemade Mustard<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>Ingredients:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">1\/2 cup yellow mustard seeds<br \/>\n2 tablespoons mustard powder<br \/>\n1\/2 cup water<br \/>\n1\/3 cup tarragon vinegar (or use another herb to make your vinegar)<br \/>\n1-1\/2 teaspoons salt<br \/>\n2 tablespoons honey<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>Instructions:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Place the mustard seeds in a stainless-steel bowl. Briefly go at them with a pestle if you have one to release some of the oils. Add the mustard powder, and stir in the water. Let the mustard sit for 10 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">At the end of the 10 minutes pour in the vinegar. Cover the mixture and let it sit overnight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The next day, place the mixture in a blender. Add the salt and honey. Pulse quickly to blend, but try to leave some bits of mustard coarse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Pour the mustard into a clean glass jar, cover, and refrigerate for 1 week before using.
