My sister-in-law Leigh recently ordered a high-end gas range, which arrived a week and a half ago.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Unfortunately, the price tag on the new toy from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vikingrange.com\/consumer\/index.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Viking<\/a> isn\u2019t merely financial. The stove is eating into Leigh\u2019s time and patience as well her pocketbook. It is apparently designed ONLY to go into a spanking new kitchen, not to fit neatly into an existing kitchen.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Leigh has had to hire not only a plumber from <a href=\"https:\/\/grahamandsonsplumbing.com.au\/\">Graham and Sons Plumbing<\/a> to put in a gas line (which she expected) but a handyman to design a pipe for the exhaust system, an electrician to put in new wires, and a carpenter to fit the stove into the wall.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Some of them have come, some of them are still expected, and some of them are going to have to come back. Whenever she spots the stove she just compliments Leigh on how beautifully clean it is.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">With no working burners or oven we\u2019re taking advantage every other cooking appliance in and out of the house\u2014the grill, the microwave, the slow cooker.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Yesterday evening the fondue pot enjoyed its moment in the sun. Happily, our fondue pot is electric so all the heating (not just warming) could be done at the table.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">My brother was lobbying for a traditional Swiss fondue with Gruy\u00e8re and Emmantaler, particularly since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/?p=6560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my most recent fondue<\/a> was also nontraditional.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Most people credit the Swiss with inventing fondue to get them through winter months full of stale bread and cheese, and I do love classic fondue.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">I found cilantro and a jalape\u00f1o pepper in the house, however, so my brother had to eat yet another non-fondue fondue. He managed very nicely.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The flavorings here are really a guideline. If you want more pepper, as I say below, use more (or use the seeds!). If you don\u2019t want to taste the cumin, omit it. If you have small children in the house you may want to skip the cilantro\u2014or let adults put it on their own portions.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Enjoy\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/fondingweb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7024\" title=\"fondingweb\" src=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/fondingweb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/fondingweb.jpg 360w, https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/fondingweb-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Southwestern-Cheese-Fondue.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Fondue<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>Ingredients:<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">2 to 3 cloves garlic, slightly crushed<br \/>\n1 pound shredded cheese\u2014mixed Monterey Jack and sharp cheddar<br \/>\n2 tablespoons flour<br \/>\n1 cup Mexican beer<br \/>\n2 plum tomatoes, diced<br \/>\n1 can (4 ounces) mild green chiles<br \/>\n1 jalape\u00f1o pepper, seeded and diced (more if you like spice)<br \/>\n1 tablespoon lime juice<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon ground cumin<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon paprika<br \/>\n3 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro<br \/>\n1 medium baguette, cut into bite-sized pieces<br \/>\ncarrot and celery sticks<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>Instructions:<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the garlic; then discard the cloves.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">In a bowl toss together the cheese and the flour.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Bring the beer to a boil in the fondue pot. Add the tomatoes, the chiles, the pepper, the lime juice, and the spices\u2014but not the cilantro.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Reduce the heat and stir in the cheese\/flour mixture. Continue to stir until the cheese has melted. Stir in the cilantro.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: &amp;amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Dip the bread and vegetable pieces into your fondue.
