They can be filled with a marshmallow filling or a peanut butter filling. For Christmas I\u2019m thinking of trying peppermint! I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll hear about that experiment.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Meanwhile, a plain butter frosting with a little spooky topping will stand me in good stead for Halloween.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Claire suggested the spider-web design, and I\u2019m sure she would do it much more neatly than I did (not a hard feat!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/scoopingcookiesweb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8720\" title=\"scoopingcookiesweb\" src=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/scoopingcookiesweb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/scoopingcookiesweb.jpg 360w, https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/scoopingcookiesweb-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Claires-Whoopie-Pies.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Claire\u2019s Spider-Web Pies<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>Ingredients:<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>for the pies:<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">1\/2 cup (1 stick) sweet butter at room temperature<br \/>\n1 cup sugar<br \/>\n1 egg<br \/>\n1-1\/2 teaspoons baking soda<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n1 teaspoon vanilla<br \/>\n2 cups flour<br \/>\n5 tablespoons cocoa<br \/>\n1 cup milk<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>for the filling:<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">1 cup (2 sticks) sweet butter at room temperature<br \/>\nconfectioner\u2019s sugar as necessary to achieve desired consistency (I used about 2-1\/2 cups)<br \/>\n2 teaspoons vanilla<br \/>\nmilk or cream if necessary to stir<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>for assembly:<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">candies and\/or sprinkles if desired<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/serving-whoopeesweb.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8719\" title=\"serving whoopeesweb\" src=\"http:\/\/tinkyweisblat.com\/_ourgrandmotherskitchens\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/serving-whoopeesweb.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/serving-whoopeesweb.jpg 288w, https:\/\/ourgrandmotherskitchens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/serving-whoopeesweb-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><em>Instructions:<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Grease 3 nonstick baking sheets. (You may use silicone or parchment, but I found that these particular cookies stick less on well greased sheets.)<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar until they are creamy. Beat in the egg, the soda and salt, and the vanilla.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">In another bowl combine the flour and cocoa. Add this mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Combine just until smooth.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Drop tablespoons of the dough onto your cookie sheets 2 inches apart. (I used a little cookie scoop I got from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kingarthurflour.com\" target=\"_blank\">King Arthur Flour<\/a> to make the cookies as uniform as possible.)<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Bake the cookies until they are firm when lightly touched (about 10 minutes).<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Remove the cookies from the sheets as quickly as you can and put them on racks to cool completely.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">When the cookies are cool make your filling. Beat the butter until it is soft; then add the confectioner\u2019s sugar a little at a time. It will be a bit lumpy, but the vanilla should make everything adhere nicely. If it doesn\u2019t, stir in a little milk or cream.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Spread a small amount of filling on the bottom of one cookie and top it with another cookie to make a little sandwich. Continue until all of your sandwiches are complete.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">For extra Halloween fun, pipe a little filling on top of some of the pies in a spider web pattern and put a little candy spider in the web. I gave up on this project fairly quickly because I\u2019m hopeless at making things like spider webs. You could also spread a little filling on top of some of the pies.
